Storyteller Sinead O’Brien from Wandering Stories brings her acclaimed show No One is Coming to the Scottish Storytelling Centre during the Edinburgh Fringe. “No One Is Coming is a devised, storytelling performance about a mother and a daughter inspired by lived experience and infused with Irish mythology and comedy. This storytelling event is not just about those who live with mental health challenges, but also about those who care for them, love them, and grow up with them. Encompassing elements of Irish folklore, this storytelling performance is full of anecdotes and myth, funny stories and tough home truths. It’s a rollercoaster experience inside a hilarious (if ever so slightly traumatised) Irishwoman’s brain.”
Sinead has a second show at Edfringe called “Hero/Banlaoch” also at the Scottish Storytelling Centre. “Growing up, Sinéad’s Dad was a hero right out of the Irish myths he told his daughter – stories of warriors, shapeshifters and magic wells. But as Sinéad grows up and her father relapses into addiction, they are both forced to re-examine the stories they told themselves” This show combines Irish epics with very personal stories.
Joined by actor and writer Nicholas Collett, FringeReview’s Paul Levy talks to Sinead about the importance of storytelling in her life, the enduring roots of story in Ireland, and how everyone has stories inside them.
