After they returned from the Fringe and the venue The Space on the Mile, I caught up with some of the cast and the director of Get Thee to a Nursery… Disgracefully, I was unable to go and see it, however they still let me in to talk to them about their experiences of a show born in the classrooms of Denny High School and the febrile mind of their drama teacher but with lofty ambitions beyond this year.
And so with Alex Northcott, writer, director and producer, I met with Ruben McNiven who played Dax and all the live music onstage, Jessica Ashworth who played the long suffering Nanny, Bethany Ford who played scaredy cat Liam and Lauren Gardner as Ella who may have been one of the reasons that Liam was so terrified. Based in a nursery, with all the characters bar the Nanny 4 years-old, this tells the tale of how these youngsters tore up a folio of Shakespeare, were sent to have a punishment ap and then woke up spouting the bard’s words. And what you hear here, is how well it went and some unique ways of encouraging people to come and see the show to help release the cast form their prison and the beauty of supportive Fringe Artists. Oh, and how they shall return…
