EdFringe – an Utopian World

Let´s be honest. Participating in EdFringe with a solo-show is a lot of work. You work all the time – posting, tweeting, blogging, flyering, researching where to flyer, chasing reviews, networking and building relationships with industry people, visiting events and of course: performing your show.  Sure, some of it is a pleasure. But you never ever – not for one moment – stop representing your work, yourself and where you come from.

I am from Austria, to be more precise a region called Upper Austria, a city called Linz. By coming here, I represent my country at the biggest arts festival in the world. Every participant does this – consciously or not. For the duration of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe the city becomes a melting pot of all nationalities. EVERYONE is welcome to share his or her work. And this is, what makes the EdFringe the most magical experience ever. People from all over the world are here to share their stories, to celebrate art. Everyone is welcome. Everyone is getting along. It is almost like a possible Utopia. A world where everyone is judged by what she or he does, and not where she or he comes from.

I think the world needs more of that. And I am proud to be a part of it with my solo-show TABOO.
