Review
The Revel Puck Circus: The Wing Scuffle Spectacular performs in the big blue tent on the Meadows in Edinburgh. Inside the magical space, the cast of about eight performers in colourful clothes welcome us enthusiastically – It’s a wonderful atmosphere! The ensemble work together performing an exciting opening tumbling and balancing number. During the show there are some very daring moments, one with a chainsaw…and the cast dodge it by expert acrobatic back flips – in the other direction!
There are several specialist acts in this show, all interesting and performed well. The aerialist is outstanding as she flies high, does the splits as she revolves above us with fluid movement – her grace and bravado are readily appreciated by the audience. Then an acrobat jumps off a very high board to start a seesaw / teeter totter act with two partners taking turns flying up and up down from the bouncy jumps of their partners. This well designed routine is set to interesting music that matches the energy of the act. The three performers switch ends with ease and speed and then do a variety of hand balances that are unusual and creative.
Other highlights include a trapeze act but without a trapeze! In this unique duo act one of the partners holds his partner, swinging her back and forth as a human trapeze – she even does a somersault in he air! A thrilling act, indeed. Near the end a huge tyre is wheeled out and a large platform is balanced on it precariously as the ensemble climb up and perform what must be the largest Rolla Bolla balancing act in the world! This is daring and impressive!
Each of the acts performed by the talented ensemble incorporates creative moves that are out of the ordinary, which is wonderful. While circuses usually have a clown, who performs in the transitions and has their own entertaining number, the scenes with the clown – wearing a white clown costume – would benefit from more creative development as the run continues.
The Revel Puck Circus: The Wing Scuffle Spectacular has much to offer – it is entertaining, fun and comprises very good juggling, balancing, and outstanding trapeze and aerialist acts. The energetic ensemble create a wonderful atmosphere for everyone and it is surely a memorable experience. Don’t miss it!!!!
