As part of exploring the three shows featuring the songs of Tom Lehrer, Kate Saffin talks to exceedingly talented musician and pianist, Antony Hubmayer, AKA Dr H Musics. He shares his passion for both Lehrer’s music and involving his audience in the show. Lehrer was famous for not encouraging audience participation, in fact discouraged it, very firmly!
Although the focus of the conversation was Tom Lehrer, it turns out he also is taking the ‘I’m going the Fringe, I might as well take two shows’ approach to new levels. Seven to be precise. He has seven different shows across the three weeks – occasionally challenging in terms of remembering all the song lyrics – but finds that having just a few dates for each show often means a bigger audience which suits his very interactive style and creates a lively atmosphere.
