FringeReview’s Kate Saffin describes Hidden Gem show Buzz as “a tale of survival told with gentle humour, introspection, and clarity.”
Buzz is a solo performance created and performed by Trish Lyons at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The work is described as a stand-up tragedy, blending dark humor and poetic storytelling to depict episodes from Lyons’s life. The narrative traverses traumatic experiences such as a stalking incident in Toronto, witnessing a suicide in London, and time spent in a mental health facility.
Drawing from her background as a fine art lecturer and a post-punk band singer, Lyons interweaves art, memory, and personal history while moving between past and present. The show incorporates elements of confessional, lecture, and survival narrative, using fragmented memories and visual imagery. Buzz is directed by Lee Brock, Co-Artistic Director of The Barrow Group in New York, and co-produced by Marshall Cordell. The performance aims to explore themes of trauma, survival, and the restorative power of art, presented through a unique and personal theatrical lens.
Paul Levy spoke with Trish and Marshall about the show, its inception, creation and realisation at the Edinburgh Fringe.
