Improv Preview: The Maydays return to Brighton Fringe

Something Wicked this way Comes – and we’d love you to meet ‘it’!

The Maydays return to The Brighton Fringe, with a “darkly comedic” twisted musical tale inspired by gothic themes, fairy-tales and the warped imaginations that brought us Lemony Snicket, Beetlejuice, Shockheaded Peter and the Grimm’s Tales.

Award winning, completely improvised, gothic musical hits Brighton Fringe.

Step into a world of crumbling mansions, talking objects, and tragic love—all entirely made up on the night. Every performance is unique. The Maydays use audience suggestions to create a twisted tale that is heartfelt, hilarious, and hauntingly horrible.

Established in 2004, The Maydays are a multi-award-winning improv theatre and comedy company. They regularly perform at Komedia Brighton with their show, Confessions, and have played at UK festivals, large-scale corporate and private events. They’ve headlined sell-out international festivals including Finland, Barcelona, Dublin and Greece and performed in major improvised shows in the USA.

The Maydays are a Brighton based improv company known for longform work that focuses on story, character, and honest reactions. Instead of chasing quick jokes, they build scenes that develop over time, letting relationships and themes emerge naturally. They are a bit of a Brighton legend!

The performers listen closely, accept offers, and respond in a grounded way, which makes even unusual ideas feel believable. Their shows often start with a simple suggestion and grow into connected scenes with clear emotional stakes. I find them to be very authentic as humans and characters.

They also teach widely, helping shape the UK improv scene by promoting trust, collaboration, and strong ensemble work. Their style shows that improv can be both funny and genuinely engaging.
