“At its core, Almost Fine explores identity—gender, culture, and how we are shaped by forces we rarely question.”
“It is not about breaking. It is not about control. It is about living in the space of “almost”— the fragile, honest moment before we find our footing again.”. This is the premise for Almost Fine.
The piece was presented at the 2024 Taiwan Jumping Islands Dance Festival:
Created and performed by renowned Taiwanese dancer A-Yao, Almost Fine is a 30-minute piece that moves between dance and physical theatre, exploring the fragile space of “almost”—where control slips, identities blur, and the body begins to reveal what lies underneath.
Through small, familiar actions—walking, sitting, scrolling, breathing—the work gradually unravels the idea of “being normal.” Playful yet precise, it shifts between instinct, glitch, and quiet ritual, creating an intimate and subtly disorienting experience.
