El Blackwood is the creator of Tending. A verbatim piece based on over 70 interviews with nurses of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities, Tending immerses you in their day-to-day lives.
In our interview she talks about the impetus to create the show, the process of recruiting nurses to interview (there was no shortage of offers!), transcribing personally and by hand and then creating the stunning three person drama we see on stage. Finally she shares her ambitions for the play – to tour, but in particular to get it in front of policy makers to add these powerful voices to the debates about the future and planning for the NHS.
