Beautifully performed movement theatre exploring what it means to go home.
Review
HOME[sic] begins simply. The artistic director of PUSH Physical Theatre asks us to close our eyes, dream about what home is, and enter into a dreamlike state. HOME[sic] is a dream – beautiful, awe-inspiring, absurd, funny, heartfelt, adventurous, confusing, and profound. All of this is performed without a whiff of pretentiousness. The show feels as though you fell asleep and are nostalgic for home. PUSH takes you into their world and holds you like a tender mother would her child.
All three performers are gifted in their craft. The strength, the comedic timing, and the beauty of their movement speaks volumes. Many audience members, including myself, were gasping in awe. It is a tableau of life: the child born, the old woman caring for her home, the parents caring for their crying children, the adventurous youth are but some of the scenes explored. And yet, they allow for moments of humor to shine. Two brothers fighting over a pair of clothes left us all in stitches, particularly the young child in the audience who kept gleefully exclaiming how silly it was. The theatre here inspires all, young and old. These are artists at the top of their craft. It is no wonder they have received such acclaim from this and many previous pieces.
There is little point go in depth here. Simply: go. Let yourself enter their dream and take you home.
