A cute and honest piece about dating with disability
Review
There is courage rampant throughout Morgan Frey’s The Greatest Betrayal. Frey presents herself as she is – born disabled, different, and with a unique voice. Her performance style is relaxed. She stands confident speaking directly to the audience and bringing them in as one would a close friend. Frey’s personality, light humor, and unusual perspective as a young woman living with disabilities elevate the piece.
Unfortunately, the show is a work in progress. It clocks in at just over 30 minutes and needs further workshopping. Frey’s story is about her dealing with the trauma of a sexual assault. The betrayal comes from her former friends who failed to support Frey through this traumatizing ordeal. The Greatest Betrayal has the rumblings of the International hit Prima Facie but without the maturity, clarity, and intensity realized yet. It is unfortunate as Frey possesses a gift as a storyteller. The script itself moves too quickly from points, particularly around the main conflict and Frey’s response to it. We go off on unclear tangents about Dawson’s Creek and Grey’s Anatomy. With a director and tighter script, Frey will be able to shine.
