Solo Comedy and Comedy Chat Shows: Paul Levy talks to writer and performer Rosie Wilby about The Conscious Uncoupling and The Breakup Monologues. Rosie is back at the Fringe with two shows, one a hit from last year and a new one, in chat show format.
The Conscious Uncoupling has been a hit around the country. “BBC Radio 4 regular Wilby poignantly interweaves comedy, memoir, love letters, breakup emails and Richard Hawley music to investigate the aftermath of separation in a post-Gwyneth world. The Conscious Uncoupling was commissioned by London’s Southbank Centre for Festival of Love and was shortlisted, via public vote, for Funny Women Best Show 2016.”
The Breakup Monologues, also in the Free Fringe, is “a chat show hosted Rosie where she and other top comedy, spoken word and theatre acts look back at their best and worst relationship breakup stories. Tragedy plus time equals comedy, right? Can we ever stay friends with our ex-partners? How does technology play a role in our romantic endings? Have you been dumped by tweet? Have you ever been ghosted? Does Gwyneth Paltrow have the right idea and should we be consciously uncoupling?”
