Lorelei Zarifian talks to Jo Tomalin about her Operatic Training, fascination for Fringe Theatre and latest solo show – a mini play – A Scar is Born


Lorelei Zarifian (performer, writer, director) is trained as an operetta singer and French literature teacher. She sang all over the world at the Gaveau Hall in Paris, the Steinway hall in N.Y etc… In 2019, she performed her show ” Excuse My French” at the West Side Comedy club in N.Y. In 2021, she wrote and performed her play Frigorific at the Orlando Fringe Festival, at the Soho playhouse and at the Hudson Theatre in L.A. A Scar is born received the award for outstanding World Premiere at the San Diego Fringe festival.

A Scar is Born is the humorous story of one misfit’s hopeful audition. She reviews for the casting director important moments of her life and her journey from France to America. In the face of rejection, she never gives up her passion for performing the music of words and language. A cycle of songs recounting life in Marseille, Paris, New York and Florida, intertwined with sketches about the absurdity of modern existence.
