Originally from England and now based in The USA. An expert in movement, physical theatre & voice for actors – Jo Tomalin teaches theatre arts subjects, directs, presents national & international theatre workshops, writes Theatre & Dance reviews in the US and Europe and is a pioneer of online teaching at San Francisco State University.
Her play “Jessica” written and directed by Jo was produced in the Fringe of Marin One Act Play Festival, California.
Jo collaborated as Movement Consultant with Dr. Annette Lust on her book “Bringing the Body to the Stage, Screen and Beyond” published by Scarecrow Press in 2012.
Trained at: Laban Centre at Goldsmith’s College, University of London, UK (Laban Movement Analysis & Choreography); École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, Paris, France: Certificat Professionnel, 2 year course and LEM, 1 year course (Physical Acting, Movement, Masks, Scenography); Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), London; Trinity College of Dramatic Art, London (Classical Acting); Capella University, MN. USA Ph.D. (Education with specialization in Instructional Design for Online Learning).
Jo is currently Professor in the School of Theatre & Dance at San Francisco State University where she teaches acting, voice and movement for actors, storytelling, dialects and voiceover techniques and directs (Trojan Women, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead).
She loves traveling, seeing performances all over the world and painting.
