PODCAST: Some practical wisdom about your set at the Fringe

At large fringe festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe, there is a necessary balance to be struck between having a full set and having a cut down “fringe festival” version. Shows have stumbled on preview and review nights because an over-elaborate or hard to handle set slowed down the get in and get out, often required to be 10-15 minutes between others shows coming into the same space.

Honing the set set-up process is a key skills but tech rehearsals can be all too short to become fully fluent and comfortable in a new venue. Set can also be undermined by less than idea lighting, noise and light bleed, and stress can arise that can impact the quality and impact of the performance.

In this podcast, FringeReview’s Paul Levy offers some barefoot wisdom to managing a show’s set properly and effectively during a busy Fringe where pop-up venues are not perfect.
