Freezer Cake is a contemporary play being performed at the Lantern Theatre, Brighton, as part of Brighton Fringe 2025. The production runs from Monday 5 May to Friday 9 May, with evening shows at 5:00 PM from Monday to Thursday and a matinee at 2:00 PM on Friday. It is staged by Fitsnomore Productions.
We spoke to actor Marco Namor and producer Alec Taylor.
The play centres on Marco, a food-loving young man who discovers that the tastes of certain dishes evoke vivid memories. This realisation leads him to abandon his university studies and instead pursue his ambition of becoming a chef. His decision puts him at odds with his grandmother, Nona, an academic with strong opinions and Argentine heritage. The story explores generational tensions, cultural identity and the emotional weight of food as a medium for memory and connection.
Freezer Cake has previously been performed at the Lambeth Fringe and the Camden Fringe in 2024. Its Brighton run marks its continued development and growing reach. The Lantern Theatre, known for intimate and character-driven work, provides a fitting setting for the piece.
