Orlando Fringe Focus: Noah Pantano meets Gavin Robertson from Done to Death, By Jove!

Done to Death, By Jove! is a murder mystery comedy by Nicholas Collett and Gavin
Robertson
from the UK. The show is an absolute riot showcasing Collett and Robertson
as formidable comedians. They are continuing to tour the show after sell-out
performances in Edinburgh, Australia, and more. You can read my full review of the
show on our site.

Noah Pantano (NP) is talking to theatremakers at Orlando Fringe 2025

At Orlando Fringe, I sat down with Gavin Robertson for a short interview to get to the
bottom of this murder mystery gone wrong.

NP: What is your show about?
GR: It’s a spoof of all those British detective series…we’ve created a mash-up of Agatha
Christie with Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, and fused them with Holmes and Watson,
and a host of shady suspects to find out who murdered Lady Fanshawe. It’d be
straightforward if all six cast members turned up- but only two have made it. ‘The show
must go on’ – come see us try to deliver! Even the set’s gone missing! A comedy of epic
failures and coping!

NP: Where did the idea come from?
GR: I’d been asked to write a script for a ‘Whodunnit’ murder mystery evening. When we
wanted to make this show, I took my own script back and then it was a question of how
do we sabotage ourselves, trying to deliver it. We had great fun rehearsing all the
mishaps.

NP: Your show was spectacular. Can you, however, explain why people come see
it?
GR: Life is hard. Laughter isn’t. An hour of silliness performed by two Masters of comic
timing (I know, no false modesty here!) It’ll make you laugh, guaranteed – and we’ve
already performed it throughout the UK, including sell-outs at Edinburgh Fringe, and
Australia, so it can’t be totally crap, can it!?

NP: When/Where is it? How much are tickets?
GR: Pink Venue at The Shakes. Times vary but all at the Fringe website. Tickets are
$15 – coming from the UK is a financial risk, obviously!

NP: You and Nicholas are quite a long ways from home in the UK. What made you
want to perform at the Orlando Fringe?
We took a chance in 2023 with YOUR BARD – about Will Shakespeare, and honestly it’s
the friendliest Festival we’ve ever done. Other Artists aren’t competitive as such, they’re
helpful and open and supportive, which was just such a lovely discovery. So we’re back
in a bigger venue.

NP: You’ve toured this show all around the world. What other performances do
you have coming up? Where’s next?
GR: None in the USA but we head straight back to the UK with shows the day after we
return! We’ve a whole raft of UK dates in the Autumn…
