Frisky and Mannish: Extra-curricular Activities

Sharon Burgess Productions by arrangement with United Artists

Genre: Musical Theatre

Venue: The Deluxe – The Garden of Unearthly Delights, Rundle Park, East Terrace, Adelaide

Low Down

Frisky and Mannish are pop music experts—in this electrifying and dazzling performance they show the audience what works and what doesn’t. It is a performance that has the audience on their feet and calling out for more as Frisky and Mannish strut their stuff on stage (and off-stage).

Frisky and Mannish explode onto the stage in a whirl of colour, glitter, beads, and energy, belting out a mash-up of famous pop songs. A simple pop music quiz reveals that the audience is need of a serious education. They exhibit the art of pop music and techniques with duets, romantic ballads as well as dance moves; however, all of this is done with an F&M twist. Duets turn into warbling debates and arguments, the ballads are sung in a hair-raising fashion and become the backing track to a horror film, and they even parody Gotye and Danni Minogue to stir their Australian audience. It is an extraordinary display of talent, satire, good humour and dynamism.

Frisky and Mannish are a dynamic duo that entertains the audience with their sparkling repartee, rivalry that turns into harmony, and uninhibited zeal. The flashing lights, pounding music and multi-hued backdrop transport the audience to another world that is a bizarre mix of the rock and roll scene of the 80s and vibrant pop music atmosphere of the 90s.

This is a show for anyone who enjoys pop music, comedy, or wants to learn about what it takes to become a pop sensation. But be warned: you will never listen to a pop song in the same way; the F&M effect will soon take over and change the meaning of everything.

Frisky and Mannish’s Extra-curricular Activities is a highly recommended show that will inspire you to sing, dance and laugh. It’s got all the ingredients for a successful show (and pop song)—choreography, breathy ballads, romantic numbers, catchy duets…it is, in the words of Frisky and Mannish themselves, the finest pop-mash-up-educabaret-comedy music.
