Coco Cottam (writer) and Lydia Free (director) of Lovelock Productions talk to Kate Saffin about how they came to meet, work they have created and then, in more detail, their current show BLANDY.
They describe the play as a historical dark comedy about the first fetishized murderer in history, Mary Blandy, who gave her father a love potion that poisoned and killed him. They go on to explore how they wanted to tell a well known story in a different way, to shine a new light on Mary’s story, looking at the woman’s ultimate demise in the context of the other factors at play – most crucially, her Edinburghian lover Will Cranstoun, and what he actually had to do with the murder.
