Komedia’s 2020 Brighton Fringe Highlights

After scouring 2019’s Edinburgh Fringe, Komedia’s Programmers returned with an exciting and diverse selection of 47 shows for their May 2020 season. Spanning comedy, music, theatre, kids shows, spoken word, cabaret and more, there’s sure to be something for everyone in their programme, with all shows now on sale.

Alongside staples such as Krater Comedy Club, Bent Double and Comic Boom, comedy highlights include; Dark, bold and razor sharp Australian comedian Laura Davis with new show ‘Better Dead Than A Coward’, surreal sketch comedy nightmare ‘Ginster’s Paradise’, from Edinburgh Comedy Award Finalists (2019) The Delightful Sausage, fast-rising star Sara Barron’s blistering five-star show ‘Enemies Closer’ and Scream meets Clueless once again when the deliciously dark, 80’s horror-comedy musical ‘Screamphone’ returns.

Komedia is always a top-choice for children’s shows year-round and Fringe season is no exception. 2018 Primary Times Children’s Choice Award Winner ‘Oskar’s Amazing Adventure’ from Theatre Fideri Fidera returns, featuring one loveable, lonely puppy’s search for friends, packed with good humour, adventure, music and song. Ditto Theatre Company invites you to join them in making the impossible possible as one girl battles to become…’Rocket Girl’ using storytelling, puppetry and movement, with an original score. Last but bot least is Faceplant Theatre’s ‘One Duck Down’, inspired by a true tale that saw 7000 rubber ducks cast adrift in a mighty storm, jam-packed with music, clowning and puppetry. It’s an ocean clear-up adventure that would make David Attenborough proud!

This year’s theatre highlights include the ‘flawless and utterly compelling’ (★★★★★ Everything Theatre) ‘Boar’ performed by Lewis Doherty, a one-man comedy-fantasy adventure tale for lovers of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Fringe legend Pip Utton returns with two shows, ‘Adolf’, in which the 20th century’s most notorious tyrant is daringly and divisively brought to the stage, and Pip is The ‘Iron Lady’ in ‘Maggie’, love her or hate her? Not for Pip to decide, only to portray.
