Katie Norris, comedian supremo and succubus extraordinaire, returns to the Fringe for her third August on the trot, and if audience numbers are anything to go by, she seems to have another hit on her hands. Combining her penchant for surreal punchlines with her trademark singing breaks, she broaches topics as far reaching as her current ‘succubic’ moniker, recently granted by a fellow reviewer in response to one of her previous shows, to the recent developments in her personal life.
Likewise her impressive vocal range – alto, if you’re curious, helpfully confirmed by a choir member in the second row – fills the room with some of her funnier songs. One grapples with her casting as a Victorian prostitute in a teenage school production, whereas another explores the chokehold that the military wives have on British pop culture. This being the second Katie Norris show I’ve seen, I can safely say that you never quite know what she’s going to move onto next, and I say that with the utmost reverence. An absolute thrill ride from start to finish, her comedy provides a thrilling hour of riotous entertainment, leaping from joke to joke so fast that it almost leaves the audience gasping for breath.
Overall, her new show is an hour of slick comedy interspliced with an array of side splitting songs. Her jokes range from the zany to the downright oddball, and it would surely spoil the punchlines to go too much into them here – just know that you’ll never look at the Bath T junction in the same way again once you leave the Pleasance. A show that is certainly recommended – a guaranteed fun night out all around.
